Winter weather has cooled both air and water temperatures significantly this week on Lake Guntersville, but the action remains hot. The water temperature is hovering around 55 degrees and there’s shad everywhere in the backs of creeks. Naturally, the bass have followed and are gorging on the shad, so stick with shad imitating baits like swim jigs, swimbaits, and lipless crankbaits fished tight to the grass in 3 to 5 feet of water. The most consistent presentation for my clients and I has been a 1/4 oz white 4×4 swim jig paired with a matching 3.5″ Yamamoto swimbait fished slowly around the grass. It imitates the shad perfectly.
